Report what you already know
State when water was discovered, which rooms were affected and whether the source has been isolated by someone who can do so safely. Do not enter water or reach past electrical equipment to find a valve.
Name the two work boundaries
Ask whether plumbing diagnosis and source repair are included or require a separate professional. The cleanup proposal should identify wet materials, contents handling and monitoring rather than assuming that stopping the leak completes recovery.
Keep records through the handoff
Save the incident date, source-repair reference and agreed scope. For rented or shared property, clarify who can authorize removal and access. Request written approval for changes and moisture completion evidence before replacement finishes are installed.
Cost and timing factors
The spread of water through rooms and floor layers, contents handling, access and required removal influence cleanup charges. Isolation and repair of the pipe, wet concealed spaces and documented drying progress affect the schedule. The plumbing repair and water recovery may be separate contracts. Ask who coordinates each handoff and how discoveries after the pipe is repaired change the written scope.
